A HADDINGTON-BASED bus operator has “reluctantly” put its fares up, highlighting increasing operating costs.
Prentice of Haddington, which has been operating for more than 30 years, highlighted the changes, which come into force on Monday.
A post on the company’s Facebook page notes that all £2.40 fares will increase to £2.50 while £2.95 fares will go up to £3.
Similarly, £3.70 fares from Haddington will increase to £3.90 and the fare from Macmerry to Tranent will increase to £2.50.
The fare from Port Seton or Prestonpans to Fort Kinnaird or the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh will also increase to £2.50.
A spokesperson for the business said: “Reluctantly due to continually increasing operating costs, a further reduction in reimbursement from Transport Scotland and changes to payment for Home to School travel we will be increasing some of our adult single fares from the above date.”
Updated fare tables are available on the company’s website.
The spokesperson added: “Our fares will still offer the best value in East Lothian being no more expensive than other bus operators and, in many cases, less expensive.
“There will be no increase in our multi-journey tickets at this time.”
