CONCERNS about accidents involving cyclists riding the wrong way on a one-way street have been raised by North Berwick Community Council.
At a meeting in June, members raised concerns that there had been a number of incidents of cyclists riding against the one-way system on Law Road, which has led East Lothian Council to explore the option of installing additional signage.
The road was made one-way southbound between St Andrew Street and St Margarets Road as part of the Spaces for People infrastructure initiative.
Kathryn Smith, secretary of the community council, said: “There have been a number of close calls with cyclists, so there is an element of danger.”
An East Lothian Council spokesperson said: “Law Road was made one-way southbound between St Andrew Street and St Margaret’s Road as part of the Spaces for People infrastructure initiative.
“Concerns have been raised regarding cycling downhill (in the opposite direction to the one-way system).
“In the interests of safety, we are looking at options, including the installation of appropriate signage.”
