WORK to improve the look of a rusty bridge at Dalgety Bay Railway Station is underway.

Last year Annabelle Ewing MSP was told by Network Rail that, despite the structure's "dilapidated" state, it was perfectly safe.

However she "wasn't prepared to leave it at that" and pressed the company to carry out improvements.

Ms Ewing, the MSP for Cowdenbeath, explained: "The footbridge over the tracks at Dalgety Bay railway station is very much a gateway to Dalgety Bay and should project a positive and welcoming image to visitors."

After raising her concerns with Network Rail in May 2023, an inspection was carried out and the crossing declared safe, although they found that the use of de-icing salts had led to issues with "low-level corrosion" to the structure and the anti-slip coating on the steps. She was told that these jobs would be tackled within the 2023-24 financial year.

This week the MSP said: "Having received assurances from Network Rail about the safety of the bridge, I began pressing them to approve its appearance and I am delighted that the upgrade is now making visible progress.

"The refurbished steps now look great and I really look forward to seeing completion of the whole project."
