PLANS to build a new day care centre in Drumchapel have taken a step forward.

On Thursday, Glasgow City Council (GCC) approved negotiations concerning the disposal of council-owned vacant land at Hecla Square.

It is understood that this is to allow for the construction of the facility which will be an expansion of the neighbouring Antonine Court Day Centre.

Gaining access to the site would allow the organisation – which provides tailored care and support to adults with additional support needs and youth services – to expand its current facilities and provide additional outdoor space including a sensory garden.

GCC notes that negotiations with Antonine Court will now continue.

Councillor Ruairi Kelly, convenor for Neighbourhood Assets at GCC, said: “Supporting the delivery of additional day care provision in Drumchapel will be welcomed by parents locally and turning vacant land back to productive community use is a major priority for this administration.”
