DRUGS worth almost £100,000 were discovered in a "significant" police operation.

Officers searched an area on Station Road in Bearsden on Tuesday, April 9 at around 6.30pm.

During the search, they recovered heroin with an estimated street value of £96,000.

The force revealed that they have arrested and charged a 48-year-old man in connection with alleged drug and road traffic offences.

He is expected to appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Thursday, April 11 and a report will be sent to the procurator fiscal.

Detective Inspector Owen Murray from Police Scotland’s Organised Crime and Counter Terrorism Unit said: “This was a very significant recovery and demonstrates our determination to disrupt drugs activity and protect members of the public from the harm caused by this type of criminality.

“It also underlines our commitment to the Serious Organised Crime Taskforce and the country’s Serious and Organised Crime Strategy.

“Information and support from members of the public is vital to our work and I would encourage anyone with concerns about drugs activity in their area to contact Police Scotland on 101.
