A HUMBLE little bakery near Glasgow has been named the best in Scotland in a national awards event.

The Mad Batter Bakery and Coffee Shop in Coatbridge won the accolade of Bakery of the Year at this year's Scottish Independent Retail Awards. 

The 11th annual event was held at the city's DoubleTree by Hilton on Wednesday night and celebrated the best small businesses in the country.

Industry leaders and esteemed guests gathered for the event. 

With awards in a variety of categories, from best fashion retailer to best butcher, the event recognises businesses that demonstrate exceptional dedication, creativity and outstanding customer service.

A spokesperson for the Scottish Independent Retail Awards said: “The Scottish Independent Retail Awards have always strived to recognise and celebrate the remarkable achievements of independent retailers.
