A new group founded to care for and maximise the potential of Preston Tower is on the lookout for volunteers and office bearers.

Friends of Preston Tower was founded on the back of a £1.1m, three-phase restoration project.

The project has so far seen repair works to the tower and doocot, along with the future installation of an external staircase, providing access to the first floor for the first time in over a century.

The group is now looking to press ahead with its plans to revive the site as a tourist destination, with volunteer tour guides maximising the tower’s potential.

The group currently has about 10 active members but wants more volunteers to come forward, and a chairperson to lead them.

Joe Simpson, Prestonpans community councillor, said: “[There’s a] massive potential for this to be a long-standing, amazing space for the town.”
