A CLEAN-UP of Prestonpans Cemetery is being organised by the town’s community council, with the aim of beautifying the site.
Concerns had been raised recently about the state of the area, with overgrown grass and poorly kept plots becoming unsightly.
Prestonpans Community Council will now take a lead role in maintaining it through its bloomers subgroup.
This is being led by Janis Wilson, community council secretary, who said that the group was eager to get started with the summer clear-up and also looking for willing volunteers to help out.
She said: “East Lothian Council have very kindly provided us with some tools to do some weeding and edging but, if you have any of your own, bring them along as we may not have enough for everyone.
“We hope this can be a regular event over summer and through to autumn.”
The first session is today (Thursday) at 6pm. Those interested are to meet at the water tap, bringing gardening gloves if possible.
