FUTURE plans for a picturesque park in Dunbar will be discussed later this month.

Friends of Winterfield hosts its annual general meeting during Dunbar Civic Week celebrations.

The meeting next Tuesday (June 13) takes place at the stone seating area within the park, which overlooks the North Sea.

Esther Hughes, secretary of Friends of Winterfield, encouraged people to head along at 7.30pm.

She said: “It was lovely to gather there last year. Being outside in the park, it was easier to visualise some of the things we were talking about.

“This year’s meeting will be just as active as the group has been working towards improving the park’s biodiversity; particularly hedge planting and extending the wild flower beds.

“We’ve begun working with Sustaining Dunbar’s Dunbar Pledgehog Project, to make Winterfield and Dunbar Public Park a friendlier place for hedgehogs.

“That is why we are planning to widen the park’s hedges and give them more cover and food sources. This will benefit the birds too.”

In March, the group planted more than 200 saplings to form a new hedge and have been gifted another 420 by the Woodland Trust for planting in November.

There will be discussion about funding more planting, ideas around a wildlife garden, weed management around the park and planning for climate change.
