A WORLD-RENOWNED jewellery expert is coming to a county castle to give an “enchanting” talk about the history of jewels in Scotland next week.
The event takes place on Thursday between 6pm and 8pm at Winton Castle and will be hosted by Clare Blatherwick, a North Berwick-based expert with experience of working with jewellery across the globe.
From Mary Queen of Scots and her ladies in waiting, including Mary Seton, a woman entwined in the history of Winton, to the modern day, the talk looks at Scottish jewellery made famous through Queen Victoria’s love of the country and its applied arts.
The evening will begin with a guided tour of the renaissance-era castle, showcasing its history that stretches back more than 500 years to the powerful Seton family.
Winton was attacked by Henry VIII during the Rough Wooing, then later rebuilt during the Scottish Renaissance, when kings were entertained.
Since the 1920s, Winton Castle has been lived in by the Ogilvy family.
Following Clare’s talk, guests can enjoy a glass of fizz while admiring some items of jewellery which she will be bringing with her.
Tickets can be bought for £15 by visiting tinyurl.com/yrhs55kx or by emailing fay@wintoncastle.co.uk
A second tour of the castle will be available at about 7.30pm.
