A bid to convert a cottage into staff accommodation and create a new laundry building at Gullane Golf Club has been approved by council planners.

The plans will see the cottage, off West Links Road, converted into staff accommodation for use by the club during events – sleeping a total of four members of staff.

The cottage is owned by the club and is currently used as a storage and laundry services ancillary for the adjacent members’ clubhouse.

The planning assessment of the cottage bid found no issues as the “existing authorised use” of the property was that of a house.

However, planners did stipulate that no more than four members of staff may reside in the property at one time.

To the north-east of the plot, a new laundry facility will be built, housing two washing machines and two dryers, along with a sink/basin area.

The building will feature timber cladding with a brick base and a dark grey corrugated sheeting roof.

A path and ramp of granite blocks will also be installed at the entrance to the plot and laundry building.

The new structure will be on an existing domestic garden area adjacent to the cottage.

Planners agreed to these proposals and stated in the report: “Due to its size, scale, positioning, external finishes and materials the proposed laundry building would be well contained within the grounds of the existing building where a part of its roof would be visible in limited public views.

“It would occupy a relatively small part of the grounds and would not be an overdevelopment of the site.

“The laundry room would be appropriate to its contained setting and would not appear harmfully intrusive, incongruous or exposed to the detriment of the character and appearance of the existing building or to the character and appearance of the Gullane Conservation Area.”
