A PRESTONPANS motorist assaulted a police officer by trapping her arm in the window of his vehicle.
Asad Afzal, 33, closed the window of his car, causing PC Lucy Langford’s arm to be caught within the vehicle during a police stop on Avenue Road, Cockenzie.
Afzal then placed the vehicle into gear before going on to kick the constable on the body and attempting to bite her during the incident on November 12, 2020.
Following his arrest Afzal, of Prestonpans’ Jim Bush Drive, was also found to have a quantity of cannabis on his possession.
Afzal admitted the two offences when he appeared in the dock at Edinburgh Sheriff Court last week and was placed on a community payback order as punishment.
Sheriff Kenneth McGowan ordered Afzal to carry out 170 hours of unpaid work in the community and placed him under the supervision of the social work department for 18 months.
