Road users are warned to be cautious as a yellow weather warning for thunderstorms across East Lothian this afternoon has been put in place by the Met Office.

The Met Office warns that thunderstorms are expected from 1pm until 8pm today (Wednesday).

The warning reads: “Scattered heavy showers and thunderstorms will develop through this afternoon across much of central and eastern areas of Scotland, parts of central, eastern and south eastern England and southern areas of Northern Ireland, before easing during the evening.

“Where heavy showers develop, 15mm of rain could fall within an hour and possibly 25-30mm in two to three hours where showers become slow moving, along with lightning and hail.”

Road users are encouraged to take extra care during the bad weather to avoid accidents and should plan journeys in advance.
