FIREFIGHTERS remain on the scene after a blaze beside the A1 last night (Monday).

Crews were called out following reports of bales of hay being on fire on farmland beside the Spott Roundabout at Dunbar.

A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirmed there were no casualties.

They said: “We were alerted at 8.40pm on Monday to reports of bales of hay being alight at Spott Road, Dunbar.

“Operations Control immediately mobilised four appliances and specialist equipment to the scene.

“Two appliances and crews remain on scene this morning to work alongside the farmer to prevent further spread of fire.”

The fire service confirmed 1,000 bales were on fire and the cause of the blaze was being investigated.

The blaze could be seen from throughout much of Dunbar as well as surrounding area.

A Police Scotland spokesperson added: “We were made aware of a number of hay bales on fire on land near to Spott Roundabout close to the A1 at Dunbar shortly before 9pm on Monday.

“The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service attended to extinguish the fire and enquiries are ongoing to establish the cause.”
