EAST Linton’s annual gala day will not go ahead in 2023 due to a lack of committee members coming forward to run the event.

The annual gala, which usually takes place in June, returned in 2022 after a two-year absence during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The gala normally features the crowning of a gala queen as well as a parade through the village before a number of events at East Linton Memorial Park.

However, a lack of organisers this year has forced the gala to be cancelled, with the news being confirmed at a meeting of Dunpender Community Council last Thursday.

Councillor Lyn Jardine, ward councillor for Dunbar and East Linton, said she was disappointed with the news.

She said: “Unfortunately, it appears that due to a lack of volunteers for the committee, East Linton will not have a gala this year.

“I know that last year there were a number of new committee members post-Covid and unfortunately many of them have not been available this year.

“I have been told that it is now too late for anything to be organised even if volunteers came forward.

“I know a number of groups are struggling for volunteers at the moment and unfortunately the gala has fallen victim to that.

“It is very disappointing but hopefully it will be able to get back up and running next year with new committee members."
