THE mayor of a Californian city with connections to Dunbar is planning to visit the town this summer. Dunbar and Martinez have been linked for more than 40 years, thanks to their connection with John Muir.
The renowned naturalist was born in Dunbar on April 21, 1838, and moved to the USA as a youngster.
He would go on to play a key role in the development of the country’s national parks, before dying in Martinez in 1914.
Now, Brianne Zorn, mayor of the city, which is home to more than 38,000 people, is planning to visit in August.
A spokeswoman for Dunbar Community Council said: “She would particularly like to see places connected with Muir.”
