MUSSELBURGH’S High Street Post Office is set to reopen on Friday, May 19.

The facility was temporarily closed in October last year as the search started for a new operator of the service.

Poundstretcher on High Street, where the Post Office was previously located, had resigned from operating the franchise.

The facility has now moved to the AA Phone Fix store at 80 High Street and will open at 1pm on May 19.

Samir Khan, postmaster and owner of AA Phone Fix, said that he had showed interest in taking over the Post Office, adding: “After passing all stages, the Post Office decided to open a Musselburgh Post Office in our store.”

He explained that there would be two open-plan serving positions at the retail counter.

The branch will be open seven days a week: Monday to Saturday, 9am to 7pm; and Sunday, 10am to 5pm.

AA Phone Fix is a retail business buying and selling all kind of phones, tablets and computers, as well as offering a same-day repair service.

Samir said: “We do print and photocopy services as well.”

He commented: “I am very happy and excited that Musselburgh Post Office is coming to our store, as businesses on High Street and the Musselburgh community were struggling over the last seven months due to closing one of the busiest Post Offices in this area.

“Our aim is to provide the best customer service and help our community.”
