A county motorist has been banned from the road after he was caught driving while more than three times the drink drive limit.

Evaldas Macivlis, 32, was found to have 78mg of alcohol in 100ml of breath when he was stopped by police officers at The Causeway in Edinburgh.

Macivlis was arrested and charged with the offence and he pleaded guilty when he appeared at the Capital’s sheriff court last month.

He also had a not guilty plea accepted by the Crown to a charge of driving his vehicle without due care and attention during the same incident on August 26 last year.

Macivlis returned to the dock for sentencing last Tuesday where Sheriff Douglas Keir issued him with a total fine of £520 and banned him from driving for 27 months.

The motorist, of Gilbert Avenue, North Berwick, was told he will be eligible to participate in the drink drive rehabilitation scheme where his ban will be reduced by six months if he successfully completes the course.
