A HADDINGTON man who assaulted his partner has been ordered to carry out unpaid work.

John Stevenson seized the woman on the body and neck causing injury to her during an altercation at his home on the town’s Kirk View.

Edinburgh Sheriff Court was told Stevenson was using alcohol and drugs at the time of the offence but was now abstaining from substances.

His lawyer Angela Craig said the victim was not in favour of a non-harassment order.

Ms Craig added the woman had her own address which would allow her “protection” if there was any further trouble.

Sheriff Anderson placed Stevenson under the supervision of the social work department for eight months and told him he must carry out 80 hours of unpaid work within eight months.
