UPDATE: Woman, 45, dies in A1 accident near Dunbar

The A1 has closed in both directions due to a collision near Dunbar.

The incident took place at about 3am near the Thistly Cross Roundabout, closing the carriageway to both northbound and southbound traffic. 

Emergency services attended the scene. 

At 7.26am, Traffic Scotland confirmed that the road remain closed as collision investigation works continue. 

Diversions are in place.

Southbound traffic is leaving the A1 at Thistly Cross Roundabout, taking the first exit to Beltonford Roundabout and then the second exit following A1087 through West Barns and Belhaven.

Motorists should turn right onto Summerfield Road then onto Countess Road and follow A1087 through Dunbar to Broxburn Junction and rejoin A1 southbound.

Northbound traffic should leave the A1 at Broxburn Junction, turn right onto and follow the A1087 through Dunbar before turning into Countess Road and Summerfield Road.

Motorists should then follow A1087 through Belhaven and West Barns to Beltonford Roundabout, take first exit and continue to Thistly Cross Roundabout, taking the 3rd exit to rejoin A1 northbound.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 2.55 am on Monday, 24 April 2023, police were called to a serious road traffic collision on the A1, between the Thistly Cross and Spott Roundabouts, near Dunbar.

"Emergency services remain at the scene and enquiries are continuing. The road is closed in both directions with local diversions in place."
