BUS services in East Lothian could be subject to significant changes as Lothian Buses gets set to introduce service updates this spring.

The company, which offers services throughout the county through its Lothian and East Coast brands, has confirmed that it will be making changes to "improve" the customer experience.

However, there was speculation that some popular services might be negatively affected by the changes.

The number 30, service that goes through much of Musselburgh, was part of this speculation, with rumours circulating that it would terminate at Queen Margaret University.

However, it is also speculated that new routes could be delivered to supplement the loss of the 30 service in Musselburgh.

When asked about specific services affected by the Courier, Lothian Buses was unable to confirm which individual routes would be affected.

A Lothian spokesperson said: “Lothian is committed to delivering for all of our customers.

“It is our intention to make changes to services which will further stabilise the network, improve reliability and enhance capacity for our customers as part of a spring service change.

“Further details will be shared publicly in line with our normal process and with plenty of notice for our customers.”

Shona McIntosh, Musselburgh ward councillor, was positive on the potential new services but encouraged anyone with concerns to contact her directly.

She said: "The changes and additions to the services around Musselburgh and QMU sound very positive and should help encourage people to take public transport rather than their cars to get to destinations like Fort Kinnaird, the Edinburgh Royal, and QMU.

"A greater range of routes and destinations will help us meet our target of cutting car kms by 20 per cent by the end of this decade.

"If anyone has concerns about how their own journeys are affected then please do get in touch to raise this with me or with the bus company directly."
