A MAN has been charged with multiple road traffic offences and possessing class A drugs after allegedly driving a motorbike dangerously in Tranent.

Police apprehended the man on April 7 after having received numerous reports of an individual allegedly driving a motorbike dangerously throughout Prestonpans and Tranent.

The man was arrested on Winton Place in Tranent by a group of plain clothes officers from the East Lothian Community Action Team.

When apprehended, the man was also allegedly found to have a quantity of class A drugs in his possession.

Police stressed the danger of using off-road motorbikes in public places and advised the public to report any more sightings to police.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "On April 7, following several reports of a male driving an off-road motorbike dangerously in the Prestonpans and Tranent area, officers from the East Lothian Community Action Team, in plain clothes, apprehended the male on Winton Place, Tranent.

"The use of off-road motorbikes is not only illegal without landowners' permission but highly dangerous to pedestrians when used in public places.

"Tackling the use of off-road bikes is currently a local policing priority in the Tranent and Fa’side area.

"Any sightings of these bikes and information about those involved should be reported to police."
