CONCERNS have been raised about the amount of anti-social behaviour on buses passing through Prestonpans and surrounding areas.

At the previous Preston Seton Gosford Community and Police Partnership (CAPP) meeting, issues with children using the buses as a “hangout”, courtesy of their free bus passes, were highlighted, with questions as to whether passes could be taken off those causing trouble.

The free bus pass was introduced in January last year for under-22s.

However, concerns have been raised that this has allowed children from adjacent areas to travel easily into Prestonpans and cause anti-social behaviour.

Councillor Lachlan Bruce, ward member, said: “Some of the behaviour from a minority of young people on our buses that has been reported by drivers and other passengers is shocking and completely unacceptable.

“I welcome that it is going to be a focus for the police, alongside partners in the bus companies and the council, to crack down on this behaviour.”

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We are aware of recent concerns around antisocial behaviour by youths on buses in Prestonpans.

“We are working with our partners to address these issues and will respond to any incidents reported to us.

“We urge parents, guardians and the local communities to support us. If you see this type of behaviour, or youths congregating at bus stops and causing a disturbance, then please report it to us so that we can investigate.”
