NEW planters have brightened up High Street in Musselburgh outside a local church.

Made by members of Musselburgh Men’s Shed, they have been provided by St Peter’s Scottish Episcopal Church with grant aid from the Diocese of Edinburgh and Musselburgh Common Good Fund.

Additional finance was also raised at an autumn fair last year.

The three wooden planters were filled with a variety of shade-loving flowers, as well as daffodils and wallflowers.

The Rev Aaron Moffat-Jackman, priest-in-charge, said: “The aim was to do something to brighten up the top end of High Street, to bring some colour and presence to the large open space outside our church and to celebrate the beauty of creation.

“We enlisted the support of Musselburgh Men’s Shed to build the planters and they have arrived just in time to mark Easter – a time of hope that brings a promise of new beginnings.”

Two more planters were donated by East Lothian Council.
