A REPORT of a man performing a sex act on a train between Newcastle and Edinburgh is being investigated by police.

Police have released a description of the man, who was travelling on the service from London Kings Cross to Edinburgh Waverley on March 10.

A woman was travelling on the service when, after Newcastle, a man came and sat opposite her.

Between 5.50pm and 7.30pm, the woman saw the man carrying out a solo sex act.

He then left the train at Edinburgh.

Police described the man as 17-18 years old, white, six-foot, proportionate build, sandy coloured hair shaved at the side and longer on the top.

He was wearing a multi-coloured patterned, 90’s style, bomber jacket with black across the shoulders, a bright purple t-shirt and loose-fitting blue jeans.

Officers are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed what happened or has any information to come forward and assist the investigation.
