TWO cases of attempted extortion are being investigated by police.
Nearly 160 calls were made to police in Dunbar in February, with police recording 34 crimes.
The figures were highlighted in a report to the town’s community council, split into four sections – protecting the most vulnerable; reducing violence and anti-social behaviour; reducing acquisitive crime; and improving road safety.
Under the first heading, police listed: “two communications (hate aggravator), two assaults (domestic aggravator) and one attempt extortion (cyber, child aggravator)”.
Officers recorded a further six assaults under reducing violence and anti-social behaviour, as well as four cases of vandalism.
Other issues highlighted included threatening or abusive behaviour, resisting or obstructing police and the “culpable and reckless discharge of a firearm”.
Three thefts, two thefts by shoplifting and a further attempted extortion were also highlighted.
Finally, two incidents of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs were recorded, as well as driving without a licence, insurance and MOT.
