The findings from a consultation on proposals to introduce town-centre parking charges in North Berwick are due to be discussed at East Lothian Council’s April meeting.

The proposals would, says the council, improve “parking management” and raise income for the local authority.

They include plans to introduce four Controlled Parking Zones (CPZ) where on-street parking charges – varying from 50p to £1 per 30-minute period – would be introduced and residents in designated streets would be charged £40 for permits.

Council officials have confirmed that elected members will have access to the feedback from the public along with a technical report which will be considered at the meeting.

A council spokesperson said: “The consultation and technical report is being finalised and will be presented for elected members consideration at the council meeting on April 25.”

North Berwick was the first town in East Lothian to have a parking consultation, with others set to have their own versions in the coming months.

The spokesperson also confirmed that Haddington would be the next town to go through a consultation process, though an exact timescale has still to be set.
