VISITORS to Foxlake Adventures could soon be making a splash after ambitious plans for an inflatable assault course on a new lake were given the go ahead.

The popular visitor destination, between West Barns and East Linton, revealed proposals last month for their latest attraction.

Now, East Lothian Council’s planning department has given the scheme the green light after it was backed by both Dunbar’s and West Barns’ community councils.

James Barbour, director of Foxlake Adventures, which has also won the Scottish Thistle Award for Best Outdoor Adventure twice, said: “We are delighted to add a floating Aqua Park obstacle course to our range of action-packed activities at Foxlake Adventures, including wakeboarding and our ropes assault course, and also create 20 new full and part-time roles.

“It’s a great addition to the existing activities on offer and will make for a brilliant adrenaline-charge, fun-filled day out especially for any daredevils who really want to test their balance, agility, speed and endurance on the Aqua Park.”

The aqua park, which is a popular feature at Foxlake’s sister sites at Wild Shore Dundee, which launched in 2018 and is Scotland’s largest floating obstacle course, and Delamere in Cheshire, is expected to be a big hit with families, birthday parties and group bookings.

More than 100 metres of inflatable playground with more than 20 obstacles will be created on a newly-formed body of water to the south of the existing Foxfall lake.

The assault course, which will be removed during the off season, would measure about 31 metres by 28 metres and feature a highest point of 3.8 metres.

Last week, developers told the Courier how they hoped the new addition would create 20 full-time and part-time jobs.

The planning officer’s report also backed the new initiative.

It reads: “The existing Foxlake operation is a well established leisure and tourism business located within the East Lothian countryside.

“The proposed lake would allow for the expansion of this business and will provide additional jobs for the benefit of the local area.

“The expansion will deliver more spending in the locality and will strengthen the economy and the wider community of Dunbar and West Barns.”

In a letter to East Lothian Council, Dunbar’s community council offered their support.

They wrote: “Since the initial development, Foxlake has proved to be a popular destination for locals and visitors.

“It is an important contributor to the local economy.”
