GREEN-FINGERED volunteers have been celebrating after receiving prestigious prizes.

Members of Blooming Haddington toasted doing the double at Keep Scotland Beautiful’s Beautiful Scotland awards in October last year.

The awards ceremony was held virtually and last week the awards were presented to the county group by a representative from the environmental charity.

Blooming Haddington struck gold in the medium town category and was also awarded the Haddington 700 Award for the work at Amisfield Walled Garden, on the edge of the town.

The accolade, which was first presented in 2018, is awarded to the entrant that has developed or restored a feature or initiative celebrating local history or community traditions through horticulture.

Frances Wright, chairwoman of Blooming Haddington, was delighted to receive the two awards and praised everyone involved.

She said: “It is a team effort and obviously the work of the volunteers at Amisfield has got to be recognised as well – that’s what the Haddington 700 Award is for.”
