VICTIMS of crime have been urged to report matters to police and not simply post about them on social media.

Community police officers in Dunbar highlighted the issue to Dunbar Community Council, stressing that social media was “not a crime-reporting mechanism”.

The report read: “If persons in the community wish to report an incident/criminality, normal channels of communication should be adopted either via 101/999.”
