A six-year-old boy was taken to hospital after being struck by a car in Prestonpans on Wednesday.

The incident occurred at about 5.50pm on North Grange Avenue.

A charity page set up to raise funds for the boy's family says that the child suffered "very serious injuries" and that he is expected to remain in hospital "for a while".

The gofundme page was created to help with the family's household and living expenses as they spend time with their child in hospital.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We were called around 5.50pm on Wednesday, January 23 to a report of a crash on North Grange Avenue, Prestonpans, involving a pedestrian and a car.

“The pedestrian, a six-year-old boy, was taken to the Royal Hospital for Children and Young People in Edinburgh.”

The Courier understands that officers are satisified that the driver did not commit any offences and nor was the driver to blame for the incident.
