A Tranent teenager is undertaking fundraising activities to help fund her trip to South Africa to teach children sports and English.

Kavelle Knox, 18, will take part in the Camp South Africa programme from September 23 to October 28.

Camp South Africa is a paid-for trip which offers a young learner’s qualification, as well as experience in education.

The month-long trip will give Kavelle the opportunity to work directly with schools in South Africa and be part of the education team involved in teaching sports and English.

Kavelle is a Ross High graduate and has funded the trip herself, paying £1,449 for accommodation, the young learner’s qualification and most of her meals.

Before leaving, Kavelle will also have to fund her flights, vaccinations and travel insurance.

She has set up a fundraising page to help boost additional funds for her trip and has so far raised £510 of her £2,500 goal through her Gofundme page. This money will be used to pay for her flights and vaccinations and give her money to spend in South Africa.

Kavelle said: “Along with the Gofundme, I’ve got football scratch cards where you can guess the winning team, I’m looking to do a raffle, and in the next few months I hope to set up a fundraiser night.

“With the support I’ve already received, I’m more than confident I’ll reach the target goal, and I’m very grateful to everyone who is supporting me along the way!”

Kavelle is currently collecting for a raffle which she hopes to put on in the next few weeks. She said she was delighted with the support shown with donations.

She said: “I recently put a post on Facebook wanting to do a raffle and asking for some donations.

“I’ve had some donations, which I appreciate so much and I’ll be hoping to do this raffle as soon as we have got some more prizes to be won!

“The excitement has started to get real, I can’t stop looking at videos, pictures, and reading more and more into it.

“This is the year, that opens many doors in my career, helping people is something I’ll always love to do, and I can’t wait to experience something so amazing.”
