Tranent 25 Burns Club held its annual Burns Supper at East Lothian Co-operative Bowling Club last Friday.

The supper was celebrated for the first time since January 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

At the supper, member Bert Cunningham received a life membership honour from president Robert McNeill, and a talk was given by Dr Colin Mackenzie on the history of Tranent and the Burns Club.

Meanwhile, public speaker and toastmaster Cameron Goodall gave the Immortal Memory speech.

President Robert McNeill said: “It was a fantastic supper.

“It was a great honour to give Bert the life membership award. I’ve known Bert a long time and we go way back so I was proud to present him with it.

“I was also honoured to hear the speech from Cameron Goodall.

“It was very special to have someone like Cameron come along to our supper.”

After the supper, a spokesperson for the club said on Facebook: “A successful Burns Supper last night with Cameron Goodall giving a unique immortal memory with some great recitations.

“One of the many highlights was Dr Colin Mackenzie’s talk on ‘Oor toon and club’, where he successfully put a target on his back to be the butt of more jokes from the members.

“The club is full of personalities. An appeal for new committee members was made and it is hoped that those interested will make themselves known.”
