A MAN who vandalised and left sexual messages on a woman’s car in Haddington has been ordered to pay her compensation.

Lee Smartt, 40, engaged in a course of conduct which caused the woman fear and alarm by repeatedly attending at her home over a 10-month period.

Smartt, of Blackwood, South Lanarkshire, also repeatedly attempted to contact the woman on social media and repeatedly drove past her home despite being asked to stay away.

During the course of threatening conduct, Smartt also vandalised the woman’s car and daubed sexual messages on the vehicle.

The offender appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court for sentencing last week after previously admitting the charges in front of Sheriff Chris Dickson.

The sheriff placed Smartt on a 12-month supervision order and sentenced him to complete 180 hours of unpaid work.

Sheriff Dickson also imposed a compensation order where Smartt will have to pay the woman £1,775 to cover the damage he caused to her car.

Smartt admitted to engaging in a course of conduct which caused the woman fear and alarm at an address in Haddington between June 1, 2021, and April 23 last year.
