NORTH Berwick could take part in a beacon lighting ceremony to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings in Normandy.

The beacons would be lit on June 6, 2024 – exactly 80 years after Allied troops stormed the beaches in northern France in 1944.

Members of North Berwick Community Council (NBCC) expressed interest in taking part in the commemoration at the group’s latest meeting.

The group did not know exact details but it was confirmed that a guide on how to take part would be circulated shortly.

Discussion then turned to reusing the beacon that was acquired for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations last year.

Members agreed to revisit the discussion before making a final decision after receiving the guide for organising the event.

Kenny Miller, NBCC chair, said: “We really need to wait for the guidance and see what it’s telling us, but in principle we have agreed that we go ahead?”

Members agreed with this.
