Tranent Juniors have unveiled a new signing as they continue the push for promotion from the Scottish Lowland Football League.

They have signed ex-Hearts and Hibs striker James Keatings on a deal until the end of the season from Forfar Athletic.

Keatings comes to Tranent with great pedigree having started his career at Celtic, before making a name for himself at Hamilton Academical.

He then moved to Heart of Midlothian where he would play a key role in the club's 2014/15 Championship winning season.

A move to Hibernian followed where he would be part of the squad that won the Scottish Cup in 2016 and Championship title in 2016/17.

Tranent were delighted to conclude the deal and took to Twitter to announce the signing.

The club said on Twitter: "We are delighted to announce that James Keatings has put pen to paper on a deal until the end of season.

"James has been at various clubs, with great success at both Hibs & Hearts.

"The 31 year old goes straight into the squad for the game against Celtic B."

The club also thanked Forfar Atheltic for their handling of the deal.

Colin Nish, Tranent Juniors managers, was delighted to get the deal over the line.

He said: "I have known James since our Hibs days, a text exchange between us and the deal was concluded very quickly.

"I am delighted with the squad, we have added a few quality additions and we are ready for the remainder of the season."

Keatings is available for The Belters next match against Celtic B in Airdrie on Saturday.
