North Berwick Trust has concluded its latest round of grants, awarding more than £160,000 to support 16 local projects.

Established in 1973, the trust uses its resources to help meet identified community needs and improve the quality of life of North Berwick residents.

Grants are awarded twice a year and help to fund and support diverse projects for a wide cross-section of the town’s community.

It has now awarded a total of £1,215,569.21 and supported 159 community projects since its ‘Forever Fund’ grant scheme was established in 2018, with more than £297,000 awarded last year alone.

The most recent round of grants includes £30,000 to North Berwick Harbour Trust Association to undertake a detailed engineering survey of works required to secure the north-east sea wall.

It has also awarded Fringe by the Sea the maximum grant of £30,000 and will be a master partner of the festival this summer. This is the fourth time North Berwick Trust has awarded a grant to the festival, which it says “brings huge benefits to the town – socially, culturally and economically”.

Applications are welcomed from organisations, charities or individuals in need who live or operate in North Berwick.

The trust will also re-open applications to its Young Person’s Scholarship on June 1.

This scheme works with North Berwick High School and North Berwick Youth Project, with funding of up to £10,000 in total to be shared between up to three applicants.

This annual scholarship is for 16-25-year-olds who live or study in North Berwick and will help young people to progress their careers and move their life forward in a positive way.

Priority will be given to those who could not afford to do so without support.

The closing date for applications is October 3.
