SCHOOLS across East Lothian have closed their doors as part of ongoing strike action.

The third day of action has impacted both primary and secondary schools.

Members of the Educational Institute of Scotland (EIS) and the Association of Head Teachers and Deputes Scotland (AHDS) are on strike.

A spokesperson for the local authority said: “All East Lothian Council schools and Early Learning and Childcare settings will be closed to all children and young people for learning, including those who attend Additional Support Needs (ASN) Hubs.

“For those secondary schools who are running prelims that day, these will go ahead so the school will be open to those pupils only.

“Information for pupils and parents/carers in relation to arrangements on the day will be provided by the respective schools.”

School crossing patrols are not operating and all ASN and home to school transport is not operating.

Nicola McDowell, head of education at the local authority, said: “I know that this action will mean further disruption to learning, and that our families will have to make alternative childcare arrangements on that day and it is regrettable that we have had to make this decision, however ensuring the health and safety of our children and young people must take priority.”

Further strike action took place earlier this month, with primary schools shutting last Tuesday and secondary schools doing likewise the following day.
