MUSSELBURGH’S Disability Sports Club celebrated its first Christmas party since the Covid-19 lockdown.

The festive fun, which was enjoyed last month, took place at East Lothian Co-operative Bowling and Social Club in Tranent, fully funded by the Pennypit Community Development Trust, which allowed participants to join free of charge.

Food was provided by Fa’side Community Kitchen, which catered for the different needs within the group and “made everyone feel very special”.

The party featured local DJs, who also donated their time free and laid on music for the evening.

The club provides sports activities and exercise for people of all ages with a wide range of disabilities.

They meet every Wednesday at Musselburgh Sports Centre.

Co-ordinator Jade Hall said: “We feel very grateful to have been able to enjoy and celebrate the festive period together with our group and without them having to worry about the extra costs that it would normally bring, during what is already a very challenging time for all.

“The last few years, with Covid, have also been particularly challenging for many of the participants due to not being able to socialise outwith their bubbles, so it was extra special this year to be able to end the year in high spirits.”
