Tranent Amateur Football Club made a large donation to East Lothian Foodbank in Tranent to help out those in need at Christmas.

Players from the first team donated lots of festive food, as well as Christmas crackers, which were put to use in the foodbank’s Jingle Bags appeal.

The club said on Facebook: “Last week, the club dropped off donations assembled by our playing squad at East Lothian Foodbank in Tranent.

“Times are tough at the moment and the pinch is felt even more so over the festive period.

“The players wanted to do what they could to help ease the burden for some families within our local community over Christmas and New Year, for which they deserve enormous credit.

“Our collection weighed in at 66.5kg, which equates to roughly 158 meals.”

Elaine Morrison, manager at the foodbank, said: "All the donations we have received this year which will go to those who need them.

"The kindness and generosity of the local community has really shone through over Christmas and we are very grateful."
