Fire services were called out after a van was found on fire in Tranent in the early hours of yesterday morning.

Local residents made the fire service aware of the incident which took place at Birsley Brae, Tranent.

The vehicle has been completely destroyed and remains in the field following the incident as of 3pm this afternoon (Wednesday).

One local resident said they had been woken up by three or four loud bangs in the early hours of yesterday morning when the incident occurred.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 1.34am on Tuesday, December 20 to reports of a fire in the open at Birsley Brae Road, Tranent.

“Operations Control mobilised one fire appliance and firefighters extinguished a fire affecting one van.

“There were no reported casualties and crews left after ensuring the area was made safe.”

Police were made aware of the incident at about 9am on Tuesday but said there were no requirements for officers to attend the incident.
