A VILLAGE hall which underwent a substantial refurbishment is opening its doors to keep people warm this winter.

Athelstaneford Village Hall and Community Group has been successful in receiving funding from the National Lottery Community Fund to create a community hub in the building.

A spokesperson for the group said: “This will enable us to create a warm space where people can meet, work, play and connect over the winter months.

“The community group is working to create a timetable of events that will be free at point of access across the winter months. This will include social Sundays, pop-up playgroups, works hubs, weekday coffee time and maybe even some fitness classes.”

The project launched earlier this month with a Social Sunday. Members of the public were invited to head along and contribute ideas to what they would like to see the community hub provide.

Three years ago, the building underwent its first major refurbishment since the early 1990s. The building, which is used by a variety of groups, saw improvements carried out in the kitchen, as well as the insulation.
