A Santa tour will take place across Tranent, Macmerry, Ormiston and New Winton this week where Santa will be touring the streets spreading Christmas joy.

Councillor Colin McGinn will be donning the Santa costume on Wednesday (December 21) when the tour takes place in Tranent.

Meanwhile Scott Gillies from Ormiston Community Council will wear the suit on Monday (December 19) where the tour will take place in Ormiston, New Winton and Macmerry.

Both tours are organised by Santa Tours of Tranent and Beyond which began running festive Santa tours three years ago.

Paula Waugh, organiser at Santa Tours of Tranent and Beyond: said: “We organised this to put a smile on everyone’s faces during covid and are delighted to be carrying on this annual event.

“It was my idea to start this and I was delighted my good friend Colin McGinn agreed to help along with my two nieces Eva Knox (15) and Freya Knox (12).

“Eva is our social media elf who updates Tranent Folks page as we travel and Freya is our satnav elf.

“We absolutely love this it’s amazing the reaction and feedback we get from doing it makes it all worthwhile especially seeing all the wee ones’ faces light up.

“Last year we extended the tour with the help of Scott Gillies from Ormiston Community Council to Ormiston, Macmerry and New Winton. We will be doing these towns again this year with Scott’s help.”

The tour will begin on Monday at 6pm where Santa will tour the streets of Ormiston starting at Hillview Road then New Winton starting at the village green and finally Macmerry starting and finishing at Main Road.

On Wednesday Santa will visit Tranent starting at 5.30pm at Market View via Market Loan and finishing at Bridge Street.
