The Met Office has updated its yellow weather warning for ice which will now impact the whole of the county from tomorrow and parts of the county from today.

A yellow weather warning for ice was put in place yesterday covering the north east of the county from today (Wednesday) at 6pm until tomorrow at noon.

This warning has been extended until Friday at noon and will also cover the rest of the county from 4pm tomorrow.

The Met Office said on its website: “Frequent wintry showers are likely to fall on frozen surfaces in places, leading to the formation of icy patches.”

The Met Office has warned that some injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces could occur and that there may be some icy patches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths.

Those travelling in icy conditions should be cautious as roads may be slippery. It can take up to ten times longer to stop in icy conditions so drivers should remain alert at all times.

More information on the weather warning, what areas are covered and what to do in icy conditions can be found on the Met Office website.
