A Musselburgh-based singing group for people with dementia has hit a high note with a £28,000 cash boost.

Let’s Sing received the funding from the Queensberry House Trust as part of the trust’s 25th anniversary of giving to charities which support older people and their carers across Edinburgh and the Lothians.

Jan Killeen, Let’s Sing’s chairperson, said: “This generous grant is wonderful news. The funds mean we can continue well into the future, and, for the first time, offer free transport to anyone with earlier symptoms of dementia who would love to sing but would find it difficult to come under their own steam.”

Let’s Sing was started by Jan and Song leader Penny Stone in January 2016 and meets every Tuesday, 11am-12.30pm, at the Fisherrow Centre on South Street.

Jan said: “We sing harmonies and rounds, sitting in a circle. Our singers living with dementia include men and women in the age range of 50-85 years.

“Our highlights over the years have included performances at St Giles Cathedral, the Scottish Portrait Gallery and St Cecilia’s Hall.”

She added: “We welcome new members living with dementia at home in Musselburgh and the wider area.”
