FA’SIDE Area Partnership is working with the Pennypit Community Development Trust, Home-Start East Lothian, Cash for Kids and East Lothian Foodbank to form Fa’side Festive Provision, which aims to support East Lothian residents by offering them food, warm clothes and other items over the festive period.

The initiative highlight that hard times can fall upon anyone and that people should not be ashamed to ask for help.

A poster advertising the scheme reads: “Anyone at any time can find themselves in a difficult situation, so it is the right thing to do, to look for a helping hand and some support at this time.

“Remember, too, that at some point

you may be in a position to support others too and together we can make a difference.”

Speaking at a meeting of Tranent and Elphinstone Community Council, community council chairman Mike Falconer praised the initiative.

He said: “I think this is a great thing for the community.

“At this time of year, especially, many people are struggling to stay warm and to buy Christmas gifts.

“I have said before that at the community council we are thinking of ways we can continue to support the community during difficult times.”

The initiative has been shared by a number of groups and individuals on social media, including Councillor Lee-Anne Menzies, ward member for Tranent, Wallyford and Macmerry.

Ms Menzies said: “Are you finding things a bit difficult just now?

“We’ve all been there and could all be there at any point again.

“Luckily, we’re part of a great community and there’s a wee bit of support available to anyone that needs it over the festivities.

“There’s no judgement. Just a helping hand. Self-refer and there’s even help in filling out the forms, although, they only take about five minutes.

“Please, share this as widely as possible and nudge anyone that you know that could do with a helping hand. It’s what communities are made of!”

The initiative is open to all East Lothian residents and can be arranged by nominating someone or self-referring. Email Fa’side Connected Communities at connected-fa-side@eastlothian.gov.uk or call them on 07813 365745.

Those applying should leave a message with contact details and a Connected Communities representative will return calls with a form to fill out.
