A CALL has been made for a group which focuses on East Lothian’s busiest road to meet once again.

The A1 Action Group, made up of councillors from both East Lothian and Scottish Borders and representatives from community councils, has not met since October 2021.

Jacquie Bell, secretary of Dunbar’s community council, wants that to change.

Construction work recently began on more than 200 houses at Dunbar’s Hallhill North, while planning permission was given to two developments within DunBear Park.

A number of major energy projects are also in the pipeline.

Mrs Bell said: “These all have impacts on the road network and access points to the A1.”

However, a spokeswoman for the local authority said the committee was not driven by East Lothian Council – although it is chaired by Provost John McMillan.

She said: “The A1 Action Group was set up by a former councillor [Michael Veitch]to lobby ministers to dual the A1 between Dunbar and Berwick-upon-Tweed. This was the main focus but the group did also look at improvements of junctions south of Dunbar and into Scottish Borders.

“It’s very much a strategic forum but there are many other forums that community councils can raise local road issues including community council meetings, the road safety working group, area partnership meetings, the community and police partnership (CAPP) and by contacting East Lothian Council councillors and/or officers directly.”
