A MAN who assaulted a police officer by spitting on him has been placed under the supervision of the council’s social work department.
Brian Renton, of Ormiston Crescent West, Tranent, carried out the attack on PC Ryan Fleet during an incident near his home in December 2020.
Renton also lashed out at PC Fleet and PC Stefan Hay by struggling violently with them as the officers attempted to arrest him following an alleged incident.
Renton, 54, pleaded guilty to two offences at Edinburgh Sheriff Court last month and sentence had been deferred for reports.
Renton was back in the dock at the Capital court last Friday, where a sheriff placed him on an 18-month supervision order as punishment.
