MEMBERS of the public will get a chance to take a look inside Preston Tower at the weekend as restoration on the historic monument continues.

Preston Tower is a scheduled ancient monument that was first constructed in the 15th century, with a doocot added in the 17th century, but it has been closed to the public for regular access for more than 50 years.

Tomorrow, members of the public will get a look inside (with a hard hat) and receive a guided tour around the tower, where they can ask about the next steps in the development and the future guardianship of the site.

This will be followed by a question-and-answer session at the Pennypit Centre to have an open discussion about the future running of the site and its development.

The scaffolding tour with contractors will take place from 1.30pm to 2pm, followed by the discussion at the Pennypit Centre from 2.15pm to 3.15pm.

Those interested in attending should email jirvine@eastlothian.gov.uk with their name, number of people attending and how long then can attend for.
