THE name of a soldier killed more than 100 years ago will be unveiled on Dunbar War Memorial.

George Young, who was born at Pinkerton, on the outskirts of the town, will finally have his name unveiled at the memorial as part of Remembrance Sunday this weekend.

A parade will set off from the town’s Royal British Legion on High Street at 10.30am before heading to the war memorial on Marine Road.

More than 200 names are on the memorial, with additional names added in recent years.

George had enlisted with the Royal Scots Fusiliers before transferring to the 66th Company, Machine Gun Corps. He was killed in March 1918 and is commemorated on the Pozieres Memorial, in France.

Thanks to research by relative Irene Leslie and the Dunbar War Memorial Working Group, his name will now be added to the East Lothian memorial.

The Rev Gordon Stevenson, Dunbar Parish Church; Canon Joe McMullan, of Our Lady of the Waves Church; and the Rev Diana Hall, St Anne’s Scottish Episcopal and Methodist Church, will conduct a service.

Following a two-minute silence and service, the parade will return towards High Street. A second wreath will be laid beside the memorial next to Dunbar Medical Centre.
